This is just a part of our amazing AI-powered, 3D-designed ad creative work with Boomi. Pretty cool, right?

We know 83% of creative professionals already use AI, and 76% say it will be essential to creative processes in the next five years.

Generative AI’s market size is expected to show an annual growth rate of 46.47%, resulting in a market volume of $356.10 billion by 2030.

But before we dive deep into our trend forecast for the year ahead, let’s look at the current lay of the AI land and how we got here.

Over the course of 2024, these were the major trends that shaped how the world approached design:

  1. AI-powered photorealism. Creatives worldwide used AI design tools to create almost 100% life-like visuals.
  2. AI-enhanced character consistency. We achieved uniformity in the visual appearance, behavior and voice of AI-generated characters across different scenes and contexts.
  3. AI-fuelled motion design. We took advantage of AI’s semi-consistent and inconsistent video aesthetic to create engaging motion designs at a fraction of the cost.
  4. AI-driven typography innovation. We used AI-powered tools to reproduce typography, generate new fonts and adapt fonts to different contexts.
  5. AI, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) synergy in web design. Creatives used AI in digital design to accelerate VR and AR creation.
  6. Deepfake tech and AI in design. We started using an AI-based technique that synthesizes media and superimposes human features on another person’s body to generate realistic human experiences.
  7. AI-driven hyper-personalization in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design. Designers explored using AI algorithms to create interfaces that adapt and cater to each user.

This foundation sets the stage for what’s next—practical AI design adoption at an enterprise scale. Watch how Superside’s Director of Generative AI Excellence, Phillip Maggs, accurately predicted the future of the AI-enhanced design industry last year.

AI-enhanced creative workflow optimization is indeed one of the most important AI design topics today. This directly affects how gen AI works in companies, based on constant design needs.

According to a 2024 McKinsey's QuantumBlack survey of almost 1500 companies, 42% confirmed that their organizations regularly use generative AI in marketing and sales—with content support for marketing strategy the most commonly reported use case.

This isn't stopping in 2025. It's getting more optimized and way more accessible for creative teams.

8 AI design trends for 2025

AI is no longer a nice-to-have for creative teams—it’s the new competitive edge.

Berbin breaks down the eight biggest AI design trends shaping 2025 and beyond.

From custom AI toolkits to fully integrated production pipelines, these trends reveal how creative teams will work faster, smarter and at greater scale than ever before.

1. Using AI to build custom design tools

The future of AI in design will probably be packed within one (or a few) custom tools and AI models that lift the heaviest and most key design elements and processes to scale.

More graphic designers, engineers and developers are leveraging these AI tools to create easy-to-use designs based on an initial input node, which can then be developed into multiple variations of the same design or even generate other kinds of content.

This process helps bridge the gap between AI-powered graphic design and development, fostering greater creativity and efficiency.

This trend, which gained momentum with tools like Klutz GPT (described as “Chat GPT for Adobe After Effects”), is now expanding across other platforms, tools and solutions.

Artifig, an AI-powered Figma plugin that helps designers generate their own Figma plugins, is another example of how AI can work for daily design tasks. This AI empowers designers to prototype and develop bespoke creative tools using natural language. No extensive coding knowledge is required.

(Source: Figma)

Berbin highlighted that modular-custom tools, like ComfyUI or Stable Diffusion, now help designers to visually construct complex, automated workflows with AI assistance.

The next race is figuring out how to integrate advanced, modular AI tools directly into existing creative workflows like Adobe Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. These tools help you go from idea to first draft much faster, with a smaller team that can visualize an idea much closer to what the final product would be.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

With a lack of technical expertise cited as one of the top barriers to AI adoption, this shift can go a long way toward boosting confidence among graphic designers in using AI. For enterprises, this modular approach shortens turnaround time without sacrificing quality, if well implemented.

2. AI integration into complex production pipelines through multimodal tools

Real-world example: It’s Gonna Be a Good Good Summer, by Paul Trillo and an amazing design team behind it, was animated using the multimodal AI tool ComfyUI for Lenovo.

Steadily, we're moving toward a future of modular, AI multimodal design tools that seamlessly integrate multiple AI models directly into creative production pipelines and canvas.

Berbin says that the creative industry's next significant leap forward is not just adopting powerful AI tools, but strategically embedding them into established creative workflows.

What I feel is that we’re going to find a way to plug all the models that are open source into a more intuitive UI, probably a node-like interface. Similar to Flora AI or ComfyUI.

Manuel Berbin

Real-world example: Stride used Amazon Bedrock’s multimodal AI tools and applications, including Stable Diffusion, to create Legend Library. (Source: AWS)

Graphic designers are increasingly using AI not just for creative inspiration, but to create custom solutions tailored precisely to their unique workflow needs integration into complex production pipelines through multimodal tools. Just like Fal AI or Flora AI do.

In these interfaces, you can have [for example] a text node where you write what you want, and it converts it into a command that you can send to another node. The command gets processed and from there, you send it to an image mode. Then, into a video or audio node. All in just one place.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

These tools process text prompts, generate or edit images, and streamline creative workflows from ideation to first drafts ready for human refinement. Their specialized interfaces and features give designers more control over AI-assisted creative outputs.

Historically, most post-production processes, such as stop motion, 3D design and photography were limited by expensive, lengthy production processes. With AI, these processes have made cutting-edge design more accessible to brands and businesses, which allows them to explore different visual directions.

All production and design processes that are susceptible to being turned into algorithmic learning (e.g., colorizing, reproducing particular aesthetics, producing certain types of images, rigging 3D characters) are being integrated into tools that semi-automate the process for the end-user. And allows creatives to do the job with more control.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Berbin assures that this year, most designers will continue figuring out the potential degree of control of these multimodal tools, so the work that's produced can be really meaningful and the design process becomes more productive. Superside’s AI consultants can help you design and integrate the right AI workflows, customized to your creative team’s needs and brand vision.

A successful integration process for enterprise creative workflows

Building these AI tools into workflows is still no easy feat. Creative workflows look different for every team and business, and how AI fits into them depends on an organization’s unique needs. Berbin underscores the need for strategic alignment between the capabilities of AI tools and the unique creative requirements of each enterprise.

Now the question isn’t about the quality of technology—it's about how we integrate it into serious production environments.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Graphic designers and creative teams leverage AI not only for inspiration but also to construct customized, flexible solutions that are uniquely tailored to their creative workflow and project-specific needs, just like Google's Vertex AI does to support the use of its VEO 2 for enterprises.

Seamless AI-enhanced workflows adoption isn’t about having a perfect tool, though; it’s about equipping people with the skills to integrate it effectively into their creative pipeline.

AI isn't 100% ready for prime time without additional human intervention. The parts of creative work that involve repetition or predictable patterns—or 'carpentry tasks'—will increasingly become automated. But genuine creativity, narrative sensitivity and unique human judgment aren't replaceable.

Manuel Berbin

3. Demystification of AI and a greater understanding of its creative limitations

The creative industry’s infatuation with AI may be waning, but this relationship is far from over. In fact, in some ways, it’s getting more serious.

In 2025, top executives are truly getting to know AI for design generation and take a more realistic view of its capabilities, limitations and practical applications—recognizing that while AI is a powerful tool, it’s not a silver bullet for all creative challenges.

[Most] executives misunderstand AI. They ask for unrealistic solutions, thinking there’s a magic button that instantly creates high-quality content.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

In our Overcomitted report, we found that 85% of executive teams are shifting their expectations because of AI. Still, it’s key to take an intentional approach to keep pace with demand.

What risks does this misunderstanding create? Misalignments, wasted spending, underperforming assets and much more. Demystifying AI in design means clarifying that while automation can significantly streamline repetitive, pattern-based tasks, you need a mixture of both AI-supported assistance and design professionals to make it work. And that’s what we do.

The power of human storytelling in AI design

Real-world example: Pixlmob added Superside into their in-house team as their AI-powered creative extension. We collaborated seamlessly to build the foundations of their rebrand, delivering a customized image library combining AI-enhanced video, photography and graphic elements.

As we continue moving into 2025, enterprises wanting to truly connect with target audiences will recognize the importance of striking the right balance between emerging tech and human input.

A creative's strength isn't proven in the tools they use. A creative's forte is the intuitive understanding they have of the fundamentals of visual language, of how a story is told visually and of how a concept becomes a visual narrative. It translates into something.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Real-world example: Superside’s graphic design work with the United Kingdom’s National Gas Metering company is a great example of getting this balance right.

Needing help with the design of a high volume of animated visuals for a convention, this project gave Superside’s designers plenty of opportunity for creative expression and human input. However, time and budget were tight, which meant AI support was essential.

Using Midjourney and Adobe Photoshop AI tools to supercharge their processes, our design team delivered 675+ unique images, saving National Gas Metering over $9,000 and 85% in design time.

4. AI-driven maximalism

This trend refers to using AI in graphic design to create or generate highly intricate, complex and visually or conceptually immersive (some might say, overwhelming) work. Maximalist design, once cost-prohibitive, is now within reach.

AI has dramatically lowered these production barriers, making cutting-edge maximalist aesthetics accessible to brands and businesses previously unable to scale them with success. Berbin emphasized this continued tendency in the industry:

We’ll see maximalist aesthetics thrive because AI makes their creation economically viable at scale.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Design maximalism has great potential to capture attention, evoke strong emotion and lead to highly shareable content—all good things for enterprises wanting to stand out.

But enterprises should use it thoughtfully to avoid brand fragmentation.

AI will help scale quality data into maximalist visuals, but brands should be strategic—using technology not to replace authenticity, but to enhance it.

Real-world example: Superside customer, Density, wanted to move beyond overused stock photos and typical vectors. They needed visuals that felt as cutting-edge as their tech. The result? We created space-themed illustrations that blended technology and human interaction with only two AI-powered design tools.

The minimalist take on AI design

Ava labs template

Real-world example: Part of our top AI-enhanced work with Ava Labs.

In contrast to the “more is more” movement, artisanal minimalism will also emerge in 2025, placing an emphasis on designs generated without AI intervention.

Highlighting authenticity, simplicity, visual dynamism and the human touch, the bold minimalism design approach can work well for niche audiences that value quality, mindfulness and a sense of exclusivity.

Our talented designers keep their fingers on the pulse of trends, helping our customers create stand-out campaigns that drive strong results.

5. Proliferation of boutique, AI-skilled agencies and teams

Production company The Dor Brothers uses a few AI design tools to create fully enhanced AI videos from scratch. This is something that will be scaled this year for most companies.

While only the best AI services are expected to survive long-term, advancements in AI will significantly lower the barriers to entry for smaller agencies or specialized creative teams:

We’re seeing smaller, boutique creative teams achieve results previously only possible for bigger companies because AI now lets small groups compete effectively and faster. With the right AI tools, small teams can now deliver higher-quality work, faster drafts and innovative ideas at a pace previously unimaginable.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

By using AI, these teams will be able to automate repetitive or mechanical tasks—such as creating a series of commercials—allowing them to focus on creativity and deliver results more quickly.

How could this benefit enterprises looking to adopt AI? A competitive market ensures that in-house designers have multiple options, reducing dependency on any single AI service provider and enabling flexibility in switching solutions if needed.

A more competitive AI market creates a more vibrant, innovative and cost-effective business ecosystem. This is why Berbin also believes we're going to see even more AI-driven, end-to-end ad creative and video marketing content this year and beyond.

People are already making music videos and ads with the accuracy Flux AI has achieved in generating multiple assets and training models. Maybe we're going to see it more in independent productions of medium-format video content, entirely done with today's tools.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

By strategically using AI to automate repetitive or mechanical tasks—such as rapidly generating variations of visuals for advertising campaigns—these smaller teams can drastically improve efficiency and speed.

6. Specialized education in AI design tools for creative teams

In 2025, we expect to see more educational programs and training focused on teaching non-AI professionals how to integrate AI tools into their creative workflows.

Berbin emphasized the importance of user-friendly AI tools and targeted education as critical steps toward realistic and strategic adoption:

The main barrier for creatives isn’t the tool itself—it’s having enough technical understanding to know how to effectively integrate it into their workflow. The classic pipeline that if we can make the image, we can make the video, the lip sync and all, is already mastered.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Educational initiatives in AI will enable multidisciplinary in-house teams to better collaborate and strategically leverage AI for scalable, innovative visual communication solutions. This will provide teams with a powerful creative edge while simultaneously avoiding overreliance on technology.

It’s best to check what training or education is included when looking for an AI consultancy or choosing a design partner. For example, Superside’s expert AI consulting services include providing internal teams with hands-on, tailored upskilling programs as part of the onboarding process.

7. Consolidation of essential AI tools and the cooling of venture funding

Much like the dot-com bubble, the current excitement around anything labeled “AI” or “machine learning” is expected (and is already starting) to dissipate.

Enterprises need to prepare for a future where fewer AI tools dominate. That means consolidating partnerships and investing in strategic implementation support.

Berbin predicts a clear direction toward fewer but stronger providers emerging over time, especially modular, flexible and affordable solutions rather than costly monolithic providers.

Only AI tools and companies providing genuine, lasting value—tools that genuinely help creative teams achieve real-world results—will continue to thrive.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

Many startups offering shallow services will likely struggle with scaling and operations, leading to closures or mergers. Eventually, we’ll likely see the AI market consolidate. Stronger, well-established providers will emerge.

Market consolidation will also simplify business decision-making (fewer, higher-quality options will be available) and foster enhanced innovation, customer support, product quality and industry standards. This shift can also drive down costs through economies of scale, enabling broader access to AI tools.

Multiple features in one place for more control

This trend means that only AI tools and companies providing genuine, lasting value will continue to thrive, adding more features to their skillset to designers have to spend less time sorting tools and more time refining creative outputs.

For enterprises, this means future AI adoption decisions will become clearer, more strategic and increasingly based on tangible, measurable results rather than market hype.

8. Debate around the role of the AI designer

Lastly, we anticipate even greater discussion in 2025 around AI’s impact on the roles and workloads of creative professionals.

When AI first entered the creative landscape, it raised valid concerns about how automation could affect employment opportunities in fields like graphic design. Today, as AI continues to streamline workflows and speed up production, new questions are emerging about whether creative professionals risk being reduced to operators—rather than creators—if these technologies aren't strategically integrated..

Berbin disagrees:

What has never disappeared, and I don't think it will, is the need for a good creative director or a good cinematographer. Someone who knows how to tell a story in an image sequence.

Manuel Berbin
Manuel BerbinAI Creative Lead at Superside

This ongoing debate about labor and creativity could significantly influence business operations, prompting changes in job descriptions, professional responsibilities, salary structures and the balance between human creativity and AI within company processes.

In response to these developments, creative professionals are expected to push for a redefinition of their roles that highlights their unique human contributions.

Both the approach of narratively significant frames and the editing require a level of sensitivity and intelligence that is not given by data accumulation.

Manuel Berbin
