28.08.2008 Show-down in LeMans: A fight for the title 2008.
The last race of year in LeMans will be a real final – a dramatic duel between two teams for the title of the Sidecar World champion 2008:
Päivärinta/Karttiala (Team Suzuki Finland) are actually leading with seven points ahead of British Team Reeves/Farrance (Team Prof. Dr. Sallmon/Eastern Airways).
“Päivärinta/Karttiala” against “Reeves/Farrance” – already in 2007 these two fantastic teams fought for the title, last year with the better end for the Brits.
However, in 2008 the “Sliding Finns” Päivärinta/Karttiala have a good chance of winning the title. A 2nd place or one place behind Reeves/Farrance would be enough: For a victory the winner gets 25 points, 2nd place gets 20 points and 3rd receives 16 points.
There are several teams who can also win the last race and come between the two title aspirants: The French Team Delannoy/Cluze stood on Pole-Position in LeMans last year. Before the start of the season Delannoy/Cluze were often called one of the title-favourites: Although they had some bad luck during the season 2008 (engine blew up in Croatia, accident in GB), they will be very motivated to win their home-race.
Another team with good chances to come first are the Birchall Brothers. They won the last Superside race in Croatia.
The sidecar World championship started to take place in 1949. If Päivärinta/Karttiala will win the title, they would be the first Sidecar World champions from Finland.
Four French wildcard-teams will start in LeMans:
Le Bail/ Chaigneau (Team Terca), Ducouret/Herman (Team Terca), Barbier/Debroise (Team FB Superside), Bessy/Bessy (RSB Racing).
